Question:

How much should it cost for a plumber to connect my new gas appliances?

I recently replaced a gas wall oven and a gas range. We WERE going to have everything installed by Lowes, but we had nothing but trouble with them. It seemed like we were going to have to do all the work anyway.

So...we installed everything ourselves, but we need the gas lines connected. There is already a gas pipe running to the kitchen. Both appliances are mere feet away. We just need piping or tubing from the line to the appliances, and a pressure regulator needs to be put on the hose to the range. Has anyone had this done? What price should I expect?

I got one estimate for $430. I simply cannot believe that this job should cost that much. Am I being naive to expect a lower estimate elsewhere? What are your experiences?

  1. Well the piping should not take that long and the labour in total should be less than 5 hours. A regulator is also not very expensive, if you have it already I would cut off about $30. I'm sure one to two people should be able to do the job. That would be $50 an hour or $25 per person for 5 hours. If that is excessive then that is your answer. The problem is that you need to have professionals do the job as the insurance won't trust you to do it so add some cost in for that.

  2. 300$ to 500$ would be reasonable unless you can find a licensed plumber to do it on the side. Then it might only cost you 50$ to 100$.Good luck.

  3. It would be so simple to do it yourself. Just turn the gas off @ the meter . There is a elongated stub sticking up from the pipe. turn it perpendicular to the pipe, that shuts the gas off.

If your fixtures aren't to far away from the supply line you can simply hook them up with a gas valve and gas flex line. You can get gas flex line up to 4' long. After installation & before you push fixtures back against the wall aply a soapy solution to all fittings and watch for bubbles ie. leaks. If no leaks then finish installation. If you have to hire a plumber it shouldn't take over 2 hrs. Get @ least 3 bids ,take the middle bid.
