How much should it cost to frame up and put in a door?

I paid this carpenter a ridiculous amount of money to frame up a door and install it. I paid for the door, the hardware, the wood framing materials and everything else, and he installed it. He removed the old door and we were down to the brick wall. The door was so tight it almost wouldnt shut and all the screws fell out yesterday and the door came out of the frame. How much would charge to frame up and install a 38 inch door? The door came in the frame with a door k**b, but he had to frame around it.

  1. pc beach is right labor on that would be $150-$200 but no matter what you paid a new door should open and close smoothly almost by itself with little effort and if the screws are falling out well you didn't hire a real carpenter

  2. 150.00 to 200.00 depending on how he had to make the wood fit in brick..however I would be suing if it all fell apart..take pictures to document

  3.   The 1st  two are right..But a 38 inch door? was it something special? Or is it a 36 inch and you just meassured from outside to outside?either way it should open/ close and not fall out  the way you said.. GL
