I was quoted $600 to replace the front rotors and all break pads on my 2000 Chevy Impala. Does this seem like a reasonable amount?

  1. No, go to Pep Boys or ????  Maybe $300.00 with new rotors and labor.

Usually they just turn the rotors and install new pads, lifetime pads at Autozone are about $25.00 and turn the rotors maybe ten each.     For six hundred, you should get new brakes and rotors all around plus new tires LOL.

  2. I checked on parts and two good rotors would cost around 80 bucks a piece. You can get cheaper ones but I looked up the most cos.Pads for the front would be around 50 bucks so yes 600 is a bit much..

  3. Bub is right. $600 is steep & excessive. Replacing both pads & rotors isn't really that hard. You don't need a great deal of mechanical experience to do that job yourself. A good repair manual from Pep Boys or Auto Zone, plus all the parts will not exceed $300. Get a Chiltons manual & learn how to do that work yourself. Once you know it, for the rest of your life you'll be da man knowing how to do a brake job yourself.

  4. $150 for parts, plus an hour labour which is about $65 (depending where you are located) an hour...

That's based on $50 for each rotor,

    AND

$50 for a set of brake pads (that USUALLY) have a lifetime warranty
