  1. My 11 week old weighs 14lbs 4oz

  2. His weight sounds like it's within normal range, though on the light side  As long as he's roughly following his 'curve' (some variation is normal, but drastic changes -- i.e., from 80th to 20th, or vice versa in a brief period) and is happy and healthy and eating appropriate foods (at 8 months he should still be getting mostly breastmilk or formula, with small amounts of solids if he likes them), then trust that he's the weight he's meant to be. (The normal 'range' for 8 months old is about 16-25 pounds.)

  3. That sounds pretty good. As long as he's growing and following his curve on the chart then there's nothing to worry about. My 8 month old weighs 18 lbs 5 oz and he was 2 months premature (3 lbs 10 oz at 32 weeks),

My oldest though fell off the chart at about a year. He was always below average and weighed a little over 17 lbs at a year. He's been tested for every condition that causes poor weight gain and nothing is wrong. He's 3.5 years old and weighs 28.5 lbs. He's been at that weight for the past 7 months. Some kids are just meant to be smaller.

  4. sounds fine to me, as long as the doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't worry at all, babies all grow at different rates. I don't remember what mine were at 8 months but I remember that my daughter wasn't 20lbs until she was like 14 or 15 months- she was a peanut, but fine & healthy

  5. Here's a really good site to track your baby's weight and see what percentile he's in:

I entered in his weight and he wasn't even in the bottom 1%, so I'd say he is definately underweight.  Talk to his doctor about this, though.  If he's gaining weight steadily and is healthy then it doesn't matter how much he "should" weigh.

  6. the average weight for a 8 month old boy is 19 6 but can be from 14 3 - 25 5 my son is 7 month next week and weights 16 2 he is long and skinny

  8. When was the last time your baby went to the doctor?  If he or she (Doctor) felt your child was too heavy or to thin, they would have told you. One thing I know for a fact, they weigh and measure your child at each visit.  They also tell you what range your child is in.  Work with your Doctor on this question, do not under any circumstances try to gauge the child's  weight in comparison to someone else's child or children.

And do not try to over regulate or increase your child's normal intake of food or formula unless your Doctor has told you to do so.   Your child may be small built for his or her age, this is also something to discuss with your Doctor.  Reading online or in magazines or looking at charts, you have to remember these are based on an Average.

  9. My baby girl is 16 weeks and weighs 16lb 2oz!!

I don't think your baby should weigh anything imparticular,so long as there is a weight gain and he is happy and healthy!!

  10. Sounds like an okay weight to me.  Was he small when he was born?

  11. Just like adults, infant weights will vary and there is no set amount that he "should" weigh. Assuming you are taking him to all of his check-ups, they will be keeping track of his growth on a chart. What they look for is not necessarily his exact weight at that age, but that he is growing over time at a steady pace, on his own individual growth curve. They will usually tell you what "percentile" he is in, compared to other boys his age, but it is okay to be on the smaller side or bigger side of that. For example, my daughter has always been in the 6th-13th percentile for her height, and 15th to 25th for weight. So if she is, say, in the 10th percentile for her height, that means that she is larger than only 10 percent of other girls her age. The rest are larger than her. But they were never concerned about her low percentile - because she has continued on her growth curve at a steady pace.

Same thing with my niece, only she has always been in the 90th + percentiles for height and weight.

At your next appointment with the pediatrician, ask more specific questions about it if you are worried, and they will explain things to you and give you some reassurance!

  12. Lots of growth charts:
