Not more than you have to, or want to. My suggestion - nothing extravagant. You're just barely in high school. Just chill at one of your houses if your date is up for it. To me, just being together is most of the excitement.

dont be cheap but dont blow all your money, go to movies and fast food. thats the best, no fancy dinners or anything. if its a first date get some flowers.

it's almost summer so you can do things outside that don't cost that much money. go for a walk or ride your bike in the park. read the newspapers and find some free outdoor concerts to go to, or festivals. treat her to small things like an ice cream cone, hot chocolate, small treats. check out interesting ethnic restaurants that have good take out, like chinese, vietnamese, thai, indian, ... Pack something from home and have a picnic! invite friends over and play board games. bake something together. work on planting a garden together. go to a museum. buy a small bunch of flowers from the grocer or subway - cheaper than florist. write her a poem. be a gentlemen and try to make her smile by doing nice things for her. she would appreciate more knowing that you really do like her by the thoughtful way you treat her than if you were spending lots of money you don't have. treat her to things within your budget.
