Question:

How much should we pay a qualified TKD instructor?

Just curious for those of you who study TKD how much does your instructor make per class?. Our local Y wants a TKD class but they are only willing to pay the person 6 dollar per class regardless of how many students there are they charge the students like 40 bucks a moth so this seems extremely unfair to whoever is teaching. We had one instructor who was very good and didn't care about the money cause he had other schools to earn his income from and was more or less volunterring to teach at the Y unfortunately he got cancer and had to quit teaching entirely. We want to keep the program going but we need to know how much we should pay an instructor. some of us who have trained the longest are going to pay the person out of our own pockets so any help would be appreciated.

  1. I going to start teaching TKD in two months when I get my red black (***. instructor) my teacher offerd me $1500 a month and up the more students we get more money I get cool Monday-Saturday!!!

The Y rip off Instructors My pal use to teach at the Y and that's about how much he got per class....

  2. Typically, aeorobics instructors, pilates, kickboxing, yoga, etc.  Those types of instructors make $5 - $25 per 1 hour class at alot of gyms or Y's, etc.

My wife used to teach step aerobics and made $15 per class and taught 2 classes per week.

Part of it depends on the demand for the class.  You make more per hour if you have 25 people at every class versus 3-6 people per class.

$6 dollars does seem pretty low, but not if you have less than 5 students.

  3. well, my instructor charges about $100 a month per student but he owns his own school and the whole facility. the new school I'm going to soon (alas, I'm moving to victoria canada and have to leave) costs around $50 a month and he also owns the facility, so it varies. At the YMCA, my guess would be at most $50 a month per student, since he's already paid by the Y. also, how many students are there? and how expensive is it to live there? these are all factors. definitely talk to your instructor about it. also how many classes are there per day(basically how much does he make now)?
