  1. 20%

  2. Depends on the service.  Check out the Holiday Tipping Etiquette Guide at http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/consume...

  3. It is up to you how much to tip and what level of service you get.  Usually a tip is 15-20%.  Christmas Day makes no difference in the amount of a tip unless you feel more generous.

  4. We always tip 20% or better. If the bill is over $70 then the server obviously has been running his/her butt off and will get 30%. I can't believe how cheap some of you are. If you can't afford to tip well, stay home.

  5. you don't have to tip at all, but if it is worth a tip, it's usually 10% of the bill for food - you shouldn't include the drinks.

  6. if they do good 20 dollars bad 5 dollars

  7. im not too sure we have never been out for a meal on christmas day we always have dinner at home!

  8. the general rule is to tip 1/2 the tax.  anything above that is up to yourself - at Christmas I would probably add a few quid because generally waiting staff don't get paid any extra for working Christmas day.

  9. HOW much would you like to receive as a tip for working on Christmas day?

and are they getting double pay?

  10. I ALWAYS TIP BASED ON THE SERVICE. USUALLY 20 PERCENT. SOMETIMES 15 PERCENT IF THE SERVICE IF THE SERVICE IS JUST SO SO. IF THE SERVICE IS REALLY EXCEPTIONAL I DONT MIND TIPPING UP TO 25 PERCENT. IF THE SERVICE IS JUST GOD AWFULL FORGET THE TIP AND JUST STAB THE WAITPERSON IN THE BEHIND WITH A FORK ON THE WAY OUT.

  11. HUH, 25%, or better!!!

  12. 20%, keep in mind the wait staff has to tip the busser, the bartender and a food runner, it adds up to be about 5% of the servers total sales. If you really like your server a extra few dollars will really make their day!!!

  13. I would tip at least 25% on Christmas....who wants to work on Christmas day? I'm sure most of the people working would much rather be home with their families. It's a holiday...and it's one meal...I would definitely do at least 25%.

  14. Always 20%, and since it is Christmas, you may want to be more generous if you feel you had excellent service.  Servers do not make minimum wage, they depend on our tips.  Not to mention there is alot of work involved.  They are not just order takers, it can be a very frustrating job, especially when your trying to please someone who just can't seem to be pleased.  If you feel your service was unsatisfactory, you should speak to a manager, but also, if you feel you had great service, you should make it known.  Too many people only speak out when they have bad service.

  15. i would double up. 10%

  16. I tip a minimum of 10%. If the service - not the food - if exceptional and I've only encountered on place out on Bailey Island that rated that, I tipped half the total bill.  That gal was the true exception!!!

  17. Tipping should be at least 15%  However on the holiday.  and most people do not choose to work in a restaurant on the holidays.  They have to work or lose their job.  You should tip a minimum of 20% If you are not tipping because you think the service is bad maybe you should find the source.  It may be the fault of something else.  Maybe the cooks or maybe just really busy.  If you have to wait for a table it is usually busy.  Do not expect instant food.  If you have your drinks and your order has been taken it is out of the servers hands in most cases.

  18. 15%!

  19. Well, if they are having to work on Christmas Day, then they probably need the money.  If I were going out to eat on Christmas Day, I would probably do a flat ten dollars, depending on the bill.  It's hard to say really in those situations, you just go from your heart.

  20. Never tip if you can avoid it - better to re-cycle.

  21. im a waitress and if i went out to eat on chrismas day i would tip 25%. their giving up one of the most important family days of the year for you, show your appreciation.

  22. where i live ti's about 10% but the Spanish are well known for not understanding the value of the € therefore can tip upto 75% as a lot of the older people over here still think in pesata's and it doesn't work

  23. I tip even if its bad service....  Unless the waitress is totally unbelievably rude or something.

This is pretty much what I live by...

    Bad service= 10%

    Average = 15-20%

    Exceptional service = 25-30%

On Christmas day, you should tip more than what you usually do.  Poor waitstaff has to work instead of spend time with their family.  Put a smile on their face and make it worth their while.

  24. It depends on the service.  Normal tipping is 15-20%.  For the holidays if the service is good I'd say 25-30%, thats what I do.

  25. I tip 15% if the service is bad. When I get Descent to Great service I tip 20%.

I have never not left a tip. That would show lack of class on my part.
