  1. As far as im concerned, tipping in Australia isnt customary. I worked as a waitress in a restraunt here for about 2 years and didnt get tipped once! Ive heard that because waiters in the US dont get a very high hourly rate, tipping is essential there, but in Aus, waiters get normal rates so its not necessary. I suppose you could tip if you wanted to - it would be a bit of a good suprise for the waiter!


  2. Tipping in Australian restaurants is not mandatory but if you've had great service then I would definitely leave 5-10% of total bill. Waiters in Australia get paid OK so don't have to live off the tips as in the US but tips are usually split between the staff at end of the night and it is certainly appreciated. If you are a regular, you'll be looked after every time!

  4. don't know about australia but in the us it is 20 % of the total bill if it is good service.
