I leave for basic October 28 and after going to meps i received a letter saying that my maximum is 189. In that letter it also says to strive to be 10 pounds under your max. Right now i weigh about 185, i understand that October is still a ways away but will not being 10 pounds under be ok?

  1. they'll work it off you when you get there.

  2. You should be at least 10 lbs under your max. You need to change your eating and exercise to lifetime habits to stay fit. As soon as you slack off on them the weight will come back and the older you get the harder it is to get off. Also the better shape you're in when you go to basic the easier time you'll have.

  3. as long as you are not over the max, you are fine.  But it is in your best interest to be the ten pounds under, especially if you are not in top physical condition.

  4. You should be  at  least 10 to 15 pounds under your limit, or another way to see it is,  in that space of pounds, then you need to be half way between the min and the max,

Some people gain weight in Basic,  because they are suddenly eating three times a day, and they are gaining muscle at the same time, so you can actually gain weight,

You need to get in the habit of keeping your weight at the * correct* level, or you will struggle with this the whole time,a nd you dont want that, if you want to be in the military then get a handle on it,

It is a numbers game,  move more than you eat,   and you will lose it, but i think you could and should lose at least ten more pounds before going ,

    good luck  ;)

  5. Yes it will be okay.  But the better fit you are the better it will go for you.
