  1. Skilled worker category

The amount of money you need to support your family is determined by the size of your family. These amounts are updated every year.

    Number of

    Family Members Funds Required

    (in Canadian dollars)

    Family members - 1   Amount required - $10,601

    Family members - 2   $13,198

    Family Members - 3   $16,225

    4  $19,700

    5  $22,343

    6  $25,199

    7 or more  $28,055

This money is NOT for show. It cannot be a loan, just to get PR. You MUST use this money to support the family while the main applicant looks for a job. It does not need to be cash or travelers check. It can be in a foreign bank account, bit there must be a recent statement showing this amount.

Any amount in cash over $10,000 MUST be declared to the Canadian immigrations/customs people.

If the main applicant already has arranged employment in Canada, then the money is NOT required. But proof of the job offer is.

  2. If you go to the link below, you will find a calculator that will help you figure out what your application fees are.  There is a ton of information on this site.  Good luck!  Oh, there was a warning on the site about fraud, so be careful if you are being told that someone will help you if you pay them.

  3. The Canadian government has prepared a chart stipulating the minimum amount you must prove to immigrate to Canada.  As a practical matter, however, unless you have a job lined up already, you will need quite a bit more than that.

Cost of moving household goods to Canada, and transportation for each family member.

Down payment on a house if you want to purchase, or 3 months' rent to secure an apartment, plus at  least 3-6 months' rent in your reserves.  Utilities deposits and funds to pay initial bills until you have an income.

Transportation: funds to purchase car, registration, driver's training, license fees, auto insurance.  You will need transportation to work if you have a job, and for job hunting if you don't.

Canada charges very steep taxes on everything, so prices will be tremendously higher than what you are accustomed to.

You should have at least twice as much as the minimum required.  Anything less than that and you could be in very deep trouble very fast.

  4. all of the answers are right, but the more the better. .... if you already have received your permanent VISA that means you have deposited the necessary money into your account in Canada! but the more money you bring the better for a good start!
