Question:

How much sleep should I be getting?

I am a 13 year old boy that needs to get ready for school (wake up at 6:30). About what time should I go to bed or how many hours should I be sleeping? I tend to have trouble going to bed early because I'm a night person and usually read for a long time or play Nintendo DS in bed. How can I change this?

  1. Try exercising or running everyday if you have trouble falling asleep, it will make you exhausted, or just count sheep. Ideally, you should be getting like 8-10 hours of sleep, but with school, try to aim for at least 7. Go to bed by 10 or 11.

You should be getting 7 or 8 hours of sleep.  One good thing that seems to help my lil bro alot is setting a sleep timer on the tv and just watching it until he falls asleep.  Playing Nintendo is training on your eyes and probably doesn't make you as tired if you are into the game alot (or a book).  Hope this helps!

  6. You should be getting 8 hours of sleep. Sleeping is so beneficial in helping give you the mental and physical strength to take on everyday tasks. So you should go to bed around 9. Don't stare at a screen for a half an hour before bed- it gets your brain energized and keeps it awake.  If you have an ipod I suggest you download meditation station podcast it's very relaxing and gets you into that nice relaxed state you need to be in before you sleep. To be tired, you need to be involved in some after school activities that are physical and will make you tired, like soccer, football, baseball, or even musical theatre class. Ideally, you would go to sleep within 10 minutes of turning out the light but i know even with me this is not always the case. Do deep breathing exercises such as breathing in imagining your head filling with your favorite color and happy relaxed hopeful feelings and then exhaling your least favorite color along with all of your negative feelings. It works for me. If you're having one of those sleepless nights, go to Trader Joe's and buy some peppermint melatonin, it's all natural, tastes better then most medicine and helps aid you in the sleeping process without giving you that druggy feeling.

  7. dude i totally have your problem...im a night person too! honestly kids and teens and even young adults are supposed to get 10 hours of sleep. sounds like a lot, i know! anyway, dont read or play ds in ur bead because it will stimulate your mind. you want your bead to be a "resting place" so your mind feels as if it should be resting (sleeping) when you get into it. i thought it was g*y when i heard that but it totally works!

  9. You should be having 8 hours of sleep, that means going to bed at 9:30 or 10:30, sorryyyyyy, I just have not been eating or sleeping for ages.....

    Anyway, go to bed at 9:30    pm that is.

  10. Go to bed at 9pm because you are 13 years old and you need sleep because you are a growing boy and need your sleep.
