  1. The RDA for sodium is 2500mg/ day, however that is really an upper limit.  Most people should try to consume less than that, the easiest way to do that is to reduce processed food, pickled foods, and salt cured foods.


  2. The American Heart Association recommends that for every 1,000 Calories of food consumed, the sodium intake should be 1,000 mg and should not exceed the 3,000 mg limit.

  3. Current recommendations is about 2.5 g Na, which corresponds to approximately 6 g salt (sodium chloride).

    This is the total intake, i.e. includes salt introduced in cooking as well as that added from the cellar
