How much space do I need for 50 people?

I have chosen location I like, but I its pretty small reception hall with a nice cute garden and terrace. I just not sure that I could fit all my guest in it! The place manager does not help me a lot...

Does anybody know how to plan room occupancy for wedding?

  1. Hi and congratulations!

    What kind of reception are you having?  Are you serving a meal?  Do you need a place for all 50 to sit down at once?

    Really, you can put 50 people in a relatively small space.  Have you seen the room set up at all?  What kinds of tables do they have?

    Usually, you can put about 8 adults at a round table (sometimes 10) depending on how big the tables are.  But let's say 8/table...so you only need 6 tables (48 people).  Of course, if you can put 10 at a table, it brings it down to 5 tables only.

    I agree with SChi25....go in a talk with someone else.  Go IN PERSON.  See if you can see the venue set up for an event.  Most places are more than willing to help you.  Some even take pictures of various events so that they can share them with prospective customers.  I would go in person and speak with someone and don't leave until you get your questions answered.


  2. It depends on the reception type.  If you can do it at a non-meal time and just do a cocktail and appetizer reception then you can do high top tables and less seating leaving more room.  

    And can you put a tent outside to extend the area more?  

  3. Is there someone else you can talk to? Like a catering manager or a sales associate even? Someone at the venue should know how many people can fit because otherwise, they would be fined if there was a fire or something. All venues need to have meximum occupancy rules in case of emergency ... so someone there MUST know.

    That's really the best way to go about it. You never want to guess on these things ... you really need to hear the information from the horse's mouth. Have you signed the contract yet? If not, I would tell them you won't sign anything without knowing occupancy limits.

    I've never heard of the manager not knowing basic information like this (and believe me, it's the first thing they should have told you). Gosh, I'm sorry you have to deal with suck idiots!
