I want to buy a table from a catalog, but my husband doesn't think we have enough room. How much space should be allowed to fit a 42 inch round table and 4 chairs?

You will need 8 X 8 for it to be comfortable.Otherwise, you will have to squeeze by someone sitting at the table.I have a similar problem.7/30
