Question:

How much space do you leave when parking your car?

I live on a narrow residential street, where cars parallel park along one side. I would say that I am a good driver and have developed my spacial awareness over the five years that I have been driving. I made an effort to be good at parking, because of where I live.

Recently, there has been an issue with a neighbour regarding the space left between her car and mine. I generally leave a decent amount of space infront of and behind my car, enough for me to get in and out, and have never encountered any problems.

My neighbour used to complain that there was too much space between cars, and that everyone should move closer together to fit more cars in the street, but now she wants enough space (2ft+) left infront of her so that she can basically drive straight out with as little steering as possible.

I am just wondering what others would consider an average decent amount of space to leave between cars on this kind of street. I appreciate that she would like more room, but wouldnt everyone?

PS - I have been parking far away from her since, as have others, I think she may have been having words with everyone!

  1. I think she should get over it. As long as you don't park so close that it is actually impossible for her to get out of the park, then I see it as a non issue. She must be very petty if she is being like that. It is all just part of being a driver dealing with things like that. Don't stress about it, there are always going to be people with their silly little issues.

  2. I would leave enough space at both ends of the car so that if anyone parks right up to me at one end I can still get out.

  3. I would usually leave about 2 feet, but if some annoying b***h like that complained, I would leave 1-2 inches just to p**s them off.

  4. boxyb if we all had to park the length of your Wang, well lets just say 2 inches gives you little maneuverability or enjoyment :P

I'm new to driving, but i would say anything that requires the driving to get out in more than 3 turns (like the 3 point turn rule) would be too close,

i'll ask my driving instructor tomorrow. !

  5. Common angled or perpendicular parking stalls are 8 to 9 feet (2.4-2.75 m) wide by 16 to 18 feet (4.9-5.5 m) long.

Take a measurement after parking your car and see where you stand.

Myself, I would just box her in so she would have to come see you.  Then again, that's just me.

  6. 8 inches

  7. Well She sounds like a Bi***!!!

My general RULE is- Leave enough space so that the car next to you, in front of you, or behind you DOES NOT hit your car or get mad enough to scratch it!! LOL

So to answer your question I think 2 feet all around is sufficient enough.

Tell this douche bag to get a life! =)
