My family and I are leaving on Sat. for Cancun (4 of us) and we are staying at an all-inclusive resort. I'm not sure how much spending money to take and also, should we not take much cash and use a credit card, or should we get travelers checks, or just take cash?

  1. Depends on how much pot you intend to stash

  2. Credit cards will not be accepted by cabs and most street vendors, American Express is not very popular (visa & mastercard are).

    There are ATM everywhere, though.

    Also...

There is a possibility for every budget.

Ok, swimming with the dolphins costs about: $80 (dollars).

The trip to Chichen Itza, with guide and the bus, and lunch (all day) is about $50 (dollars).

If you want to visit Coba in a jungle tour (zipline, swimming, ruins) it is a bit more than $100.

If you eat a piece of pizza is $1.00 if you want to go to a restaurant and order a glass of wine, it would be about $35-$50, depending on the wine.

If you go clubbing, each drink is about $5 to $10, plus about $30 admittance.

Snorkeling out on the reef is about $5 or $30 if you grab a boat.

If you want to go to X-caret or Xel-Ha it is about $60, lunch not included and they don´t allow you to bring food from outside (people feed the animals, and they die).

Sometimes you will be required to use ONLY biodegradable sunscreen or none at all, bring it from home, here everything is imported and expensive (about $20).

If you rent a car, the cheapest is about $50 per day, plus gas (about $40 per tank) and insurance (about $15).

Taxis are about $30 to $40 to town, depending on where you are staying.

Handcrafts, ok, so they have very unique things here, you can buy maracas for a buck or a wooden carved statue for $1,000.

    Walking in the beach= 0.00

    Grabbing a beer in a beach bar= $3.00

    Window shopping= 0.00

    Meeting people= 0.00

Hope you have a lot of fun, and do not go overbudget!!!

  3. bring mostly travelers checks, but some cash.  I'd say $300 cash for emergencies, then $1000/week for spending money in travelers checks.  you can bring your credit card but using travelers checks for most things is ideal.

  4. I am going to i think 1000 for 6 days is perfect

    see you there (Arenas hotel)

  5. Take a combination of cash, travellers cheques & plastic. Keep your cash and your travellers cheques separate. Taxis are expensive if you plan on sightseeing - You dont want to be stuck on the resort if its rainy or noisy or whatever - for any reason. I dont know how much as it depends on how long you stay for but I would allow $100 per day for rides, snacks & souvies.

  6. We take a combination of cash, credit cards and ATM cards. Bring about $100 in dollar bills for tips, bus and small purchases. For 2 people we always figure on $100 a day for spend money. We never spend that because we use our credit cards for the big excursions. You have 4 people so I would bring those dollar bills and about 500 in cash.( bring some small bills 5's and 10's) Use your credit cards for excursions and the ATM for extra cash. Just remember the ATM's gives pesos not dollars. If you take the bus, use small bills, sometimes they don't have change for big bills. Always wait for your change. Travel checks are good, buy in smaller bills than 100's. (20's and 50's are good)

    Have a great trip
