  1. Depends what you intend to do. You will need money for your accommodation (you could pay for this before you come) and money for food (say £20 per day if eating out a lot) and for travel. Trains and buses are cheap in and around London. Travelling in Dublin is cheap on the bus (there is no tube there), but longer distances may make taxis more sensible. You would be looking at €20 across the city, about £15. If you plan in advance you can work out roughly what you need. Remember to include extra if you want to shop for gifts or souvenirs, which are very expensive here in my view.

If you are flying London to Dublin, get a flight with one of the budget airlines well in advance to get the lowest fare. It is only a short flight so paying big money is pointless.

If you intend to get the ferry, you need a train to Holyhead, in North Wales, and a ferry to Dublin or Dun Loaghaire. You can get a combined rail and ferry ticket to save money. Trains are expensive in the UK, so I think a flight could be far cheaper, but the train and ferry allow you to see much more of the country.

  2. I have vistited London several times on Holiday - a good budget is about £150 a day: that gives enough money to get around and buy meals etc. without being too flashy. If you want to visit more of the sites and really 'go for it' you might want to move that up to £200 a day.

Dublin is cheaper - a LOT cheaper!

you will want to look at TFL's website 'Transport for London' - it lets you plan journeys everywhere. You can also get an 'oyster' card especially for visitors. it's a smart card system that lets you travel on the underground and buses - the cheapest way to get around.

If you are planning to drive, don't. London has a well integrated transport system, but is horrible to drive in -and there's a congestion charge for driving through the central city as well.

Enjoy your trip, and be sure to have a walk through St James' Park - you can walk from Downing Street through the park to Buckingham Palace - well impressive!

  3. Well britain is expensive at the moment so it wont be cheap.  Probably about £1500 would be adequate.  More would be required if you are driving and haven't paid for your hotels.  The ferries or flights to from london to dublin and back will be expensive.

  4. I'm not sure where you live now, how old you are, or what kind of things you plan on doing,  but the cost of living in the UK is ridiculous.  London will be worse than Dublin.  Figure to bring at least double what you would spend on a vacation in North America, because everything is double the price almost.  For example, you  have to pay for ketchup in McDonalds!
