How much spending money should I bring?

We're going to new york for 5 days on a school tour and I have NO idea...

Also I don't go on holiday a lot so is it expensive if you have extra baggage?

New York is EXPENSIVE...

if you are paying for all of your meals, then realize that in NY, just buying a hamburger can get you at $5 per meal. It can get expensive so for food I'd probably bring up around $30 PER day. Then for souveniers...depends what you want...Probably $100. For me, I'd bring no less than $200 for eating/shopping.

If you go over the weight permitted by the airline you will have to lose some stuff or pay extra. I recommend asking school what airline it is and looking on their website.

As for money, it depends on what you want to buy. If you are only going to buy a few souvenirs, food etc I would take like £75, if you want to go on mega shopping trips (New York is the shopping capital of the world after all) I'd maybe take a couple of hundred.
