  1. For you and your son $150 each would probably be good.

  2. Well, it's good that you've already got the transportation, accommodations and tickets don with, but how about for food, and souvenirs. I would say you would want at the least $250.-$300. US dollars. Don't forget about tax, here in Orlando it's 7% In Kissimmee its 6% which is better for you because Disney is a part of Oceola county or Kissimmee.

It also depends how long you will be staying for and if your going anywhere else than parks, but that estimate is for about 10 days. Depending where you go maybe less.

I live here, in Orlando, so if you're looking for other fun places and hot spots for kids let me know via email... Hope you have fun!

  3. You will want to plan high to make sure you have plenty of money.

$30 US per person/day (so $840 US total) is more than plenty for food.  Then you just need to determine how much you feel like spending on souvenirs.  If it's your first trip, you're most likely going to want to bring several hundred dollars to put toward souvenirs, but it's not necessary.  But I guarantee there will be times when your son (or even you) will find something that you can't go home without!  :o)

Are you staying at a Disney Property?  If you are, you can have a credit card on file, and charge everything to your room.  Whenever you need to pay (food, snacks, souvenirs), give them your room key, and it's added to your hotel bill.  It's wonderful not having to worry about carrying a ton of cash with you!

  4. yea, i agree about $100 a day is good for 2 people.

  5. Allow 50 Pounds per day per person for meals, incidentals, and souvenirs That should be enough spending money if hotel, park tickets, and transportation are already covered.

The USA is generally less expensive than the UK, and that was true even before the drop in the value of the USD over the past few years. For example, gasoline is about 2 Pounds per gallon (Americans think that is very expensive) and meals at ordinary restaurants are 5 to 8 Pounds per person (fast food is even cheaper). Remember to tip 15 percent at restaurants (no tip is required at fast food places like McDonalds).

Food and shopping inside the theme parks costs more than outside, but it's not enough to make you gasp (not like a meal at a restaurant with a view of Notre Dame in Paris). A good way to save money is to buy snacks and a few drinks from a grocery store and take them with you to the parks in a small backpack.

Note that sales taxes (something like VAT) are added at the cash register for most items in the USA, so the price tag on an item does not include them. Sales taxes are about 9 percent, so something with a price tag of $100 will actually cost $109 at the register.

Change some Pounds into US Dollars before leaving home, and leave the rest of your funds in your bank account. Use credit/debit cards for purchases and to get cash in Orllando (plastic is accepted everywhere, even for very small purchases). ATMs are everywhere, but try to use ATMs from a real bank as the kind in hotel lobbies and shops tend to charge high fees. Call your bank before leaving home to advise them you will use your cards abroad so no automatic "security hold" is activated the first time you try to use them in the USA. Also ask if they have a partner bank in Orlando whose ATMs you can use for a reduced service fee.

Finally, south Florida has a much warmer climate than the UK. Winters (November to March) are very pleasant but April to October can be very hot and humid. If going during the summer wear light, light-colored, loose clothing that is 100 percent cotton. T-shirts and shorts are fine. Don't forget hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen - even during winter You can get everything you need in Orlando if you want to buy the items there.

Hope you have a great trip!
