  1. Woah 5 drinks a night is not much ( haha) jking. It's $6 a drink at Carnival.

A massage will be your biggest expense. Maybe close to $100.

I pack cruise food with me when I beach and eat on board as I do not trust local food.

Then there is gambling.  And the photos are a must have!

  2. Hi

For a 10 day cruise, and if you are only paying  for yourself. I would budget atleast $1000. Food is free, on the ship, breakfast, lunch and dinner, so if are on an island you can always come back on the ship to eat and go back out. Some excursions may also provide a light lunch. As far as food goes off the ship, you should also be able to find food at pretty reasonable prices on the islands too.

You can always make it work with whatever you have, but I think $1000 for 10 days is pretty good.

    Hope this helped.

  3. all you need is a credit card. bring some cash for tipping, and for the side-trips to the touristy spots for souvenirs. figure about $28/day = $280 total.

  4. all you need to pay for is beer and suveniers. id say less that 500. you really dont need to bring anything.

you get dinner and lunch on the boat. just eat a big breakfast and come back and eat. dont buy any food off the boat its just a waste of you money!

  5. Anything you purchase on board is added to an account which is either settled in cash, travelers' checks, or credit card at the end of the trip.  This will include all soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, casino chips charged to the account (bad idea!), spa stuff (very, very pricey), shore excursions booked and sponsored by the ship, any visits to the specialty restaurants (not necessary, but nice for special occasion), and purchases in the shops (yeah, you need a t-shirt!).  If you drink a lot of soda, check into the "soda card", which is a one-time charge that covers unlimited soda from any of the bars on board.  However, some are bargains and some are not.  Shore excursions can be pricey, but the reason they are often worth the price is that the ship has vetted them for safety, qualified personnel, and quality.  Most important, if you are on a ship-sponsored excursion that runs late they will hold the ship for you!  If you are on your own and miss the ship, too bad -- find your own way to the next port!

Regarding cash, you will need to hand a tip to the porter at the dock when you arrive, and $5 per bag is reasonable.  Also, you will need cash for anything you purchase on shore, plus taxi rides.  (Whether you need a taxi will depend in part on where the ship is docked or anchored -- sometimes you need a taxi, but most times you do not.) You may find some wonderful things to purchase on shore!  Do pay attention to whether it's a liquid or cream or anything that the airlines will not allow more than 3 oz. in your carry-on.  There are some wonderful perfumeries here and there, so it's a great time to stock up on your favorites or find gifts. They will need to be in checked luggage for flights.  Also, check the current rules about alcohol.  You can bargain in some shops but not all.  If you go nuts over jewelry, watches, cameras, and small electronics you can spend a fortune!  Or, just enjoy a soda and pick up a post card or two and save your money.  Many of the shops accept personal checks, and almost everybody takes credit cards.  Be sure to see whether there is a conversion rate from local currency to US dollars -- that can be a killer!

If it were me on a 10-day cruise, I would be taking $2000 in cash, with nothing over $20 bills and with quite a few small bills.  As a very small-stakes gambler, I would have a gambling stash of $200 (out of the $2000 -- better not to charge gaming to an onboard account!).  My onboard account would be settled with my credit card.  My credit card would not be used on shore unless I would run into something fabulous.  And I would very probably come home with at least $1000 in my pocket.

My advice is to take more cash than you think you need, be a little bit careful, and use your credit card to settle your shipboard account.

  6. 7 day cruise i would say 1000.00.

it depends on what type of experience you want.  Will you go to specialty restaurants ? will you shop on board ship? will you like to gamble  with your money?  do you like to drink alot in the bars?

all; these things cost extra from your base cruise price.

    good luck and happy cruiseing

  7. here's some advice from past cruisers - http://allcruiselines.info/

  8. depends on how many people you're bringing along to this cruise. the more people, the cheaper the cost. as for food and beverages, they vary depending on the cruise you're going on. as for destination, you can check out everything you need to know about them here:

  9. I'd say about $80 per day. The drinks on cruises are weak and expensive. I'd say try to buy some spirits on board and drink some in your cabin before you go out to save money. Be sure to check if there are any theme nights before you board, my partner and I didnt know there was a formal night on ours.

    Don't know about shopping sorry.

  10. Your question has two parts.  First, how much CASH will you need to take with you, and then how more will you spend over and above what you paid for your cruise cabin.  I have been on about 20 cruises with 4 different cruise lines and here's how it works.

Regardless of which cruise line you will be going on, the things that are included in the price are pretty much the same. The price of your cruise includes your cabin, all meals (including breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free room service), all shows and entertainment, and free use of all facilities on ship, except the spa.  But once you board the ship everything is pretty much CASHLESS.  The things that you will have to pay for are:

GRATUITIES: They will amount to about $10 per person in your cabin per day. When you check in at the pier they will set up an on-board charge account for you to cover any and everything you may buy on ship. If you want the other person(s) in your cabin can have their own separate accounts set up so that only YOUR charges go on your account.  The cruise ship will issue you a "cruise card" which will also serve as your room key, and pass to get on and off the ship. At the end of the cruise they will add the gratuity to your tab and you can pay with a credit card or cash, your choice.  Some cruise lines will even let you pay the gratuity before you board the ship (online or by submitting a form). So you MAY need $100 for you and your roommate; or just put it on your credit card.

ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND SOFT DRINKS: Coffee, tea, milk, juice, and lemonade and punch will be provided free but you must pay for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.  Each drink that you order on ship, both alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, will automatically have a gratuity of 15 percent added to the check each time you order something; this is the same at all bars and at the dinner table if you order wine or other drinks. Drinks on ship are normally in the range of about $5.50 for beer, $6.50 for wine, and $7.00 to $9.00 for fancy mixed drinks. BUT, if you want to control your drinks tab then always request that the drinks be brought in a plain glass rather than the fancy glasses that they most often use. The fancy glasses will add between $1.50 and $2.00 to the cost of your drinks. So, for example, a $7.00 mixed drink in a fancy glass may be $8.50 plus the 15 percent.  But ALL of your drinks will go on your on board tab so you don't need ANY cash for this.  Even if you want to tip more than the 15 percent you just change the amount of the tab that you sign.

PHOTOGRAPHS: Cruise lines will take plenty of photographs of you all over the ship, in the dining room, and as you exit the ship in ports. These will cost a lot, like $15 to $20 for most.  But this is an optional charge and you are not required to buy any photos.  But if you do the cost of them goes on your on board tab.  So you don't need cash for them.

TOURS/EXCURSIONS: You are not required to book any of the tours that the ship offers and can get off and on in the ports as much as you want. But the cruise line will offer a lot of tours and these are expensive.  Most cruise lines will allow you to select and pay for any tours you want before you leave home (they are listed on the cruise line's web site).  If you wait to select your tours until you are on ship, the price of them goes on your on board tab. But you do not have to do a tour, you can just go off and explore on your own; if you know the city and your way around. So you do not need cash for tours unless you plan to get your own after you exit the ship in the port stops.

SOUVENIRS: Anything you buy on ship from a gift shop or duty free shop goes on your on board account. Cruise ship gift shops are glitzy but rarely have things that I want other than a cap, "T" shirt, or trinket.  You can usually get  better prices on all of these type souvenirs in the ports.  Things that you buy on shore you pay cash or credit card for.

CASINO: If you plan to gamble on ship you will likely need cash for that.  BUT, you can go to the casino cage (where change is made) and present your cruise card and request cash.  Then you can gamble with it or go about your business and spend it off the ship.  I do this all of the time and it saves the ATM fees.

SPECIALTY FOODS: Most cruise lines have what they call "specialty" restaurants where there is a gratuity fee or service charge.  These charges can be between about $5. and $25 per person per visit. However, all other food on board is free and its not really necessary to budget for food; you cannot eat all of the FREE FOOD that will be available.  If you go to the specialty restaurants the fees are added to your tab.

SPA SERVICES:  If you want/need to have your hair done, get a massage or wrap, or any services from the spa, you will have to pay for them. Most of the massages and wrap that the spas provide are in the range of $80 to $120.  But all spa services also go on your tab.  You can use the gym free but the spa stuff cost big bucks.

INTERNET SERVICES:  Ships now have internet cafe and some have WiFi but the there is a fee for internet access and it is very expensive (like about $50 to $60 an hour).  If you sign up for the internet, the charges go on your on board tab.

You cabin will likely have a minibar with soft drinks and munchies; you have to pay for them (but there is free room service 24/7).

I have been on many cruises and knowing that just about everything I will want goes on my on board tab, I usually take $400 to $500 for a 10 to 12 day cruise.  On a 10 day cruise you will likely have one or two "at sea" days when you do not spend any money, except for drinks on ship.  The ship will have an ATM if you need more cash and you can always do the casino cash draw.

  11. You will need $285 plus $120 for a gold bracelet.
