How much spending money would one need for week in New York?

Question

Got free accommodation and want to go the 4 galleries MoMa,Guggenheim,Metro & American Whitney Museum

and a some sightseeing and of course shopping clothes mostly and food ( on the cheap )

What would Native New Yorkers recommend 500 or more ????

Ok. So I live in NY. Its not cheap. 500.00 isn't enought. OVER 1000 would be good. You just wouldn't be able to buy SO much expensive stuff.

$500 is pushing it close but it can be done.  Even if you spend $40 for food every day, thats 280 for the week. You can get a weekly Metrocard for the subway for $25. That brings you to $305. With that in mind, Is $195 good for clothes? Depends on your taste. Since I don't care about brands and what not, I think $195 should take you far.

The only cheap food in the city is the hot dog truck.

How about a couple grand for the week....$500 will last you about 2 days tops.

No seriously, if you have a place to stay that takes care of the budget, but I wouldn't com here w/ less then $1000 a week... maybe a bit more.. There's LOOOTSS to do and see..

I'm not a native New Yorker -- I'm from Dallas, but I was in NY this summer for 8 days and I didn't shop at all, but I easily spent over $100 a day. We only went to nice restaurants 2  times the entire trip  -- most days food still cost $40+ a day per person.  If you're going sightseeing you'll have the expense of the tickets.  Empire State Bldg $17.50, Statue of Liberty $17, Top of the Rock $19,  bike taxi through Central Park $60 an hour, Harbor Cruise $29, Hop On/Off bus $50 for 2 days,  1/2 price Broadway show tickets  $55, plus subway, taxi, tips.

If you plan to shop, unless you mean a $5 t-shirt in China Town, then I'd suggest $800 - $1,000.  Taking $500 won't leave you with anything for shopping.

$700 maybe moree - nyc is expensiveee. im from ny.. they try to get u to buy everything at every cornorr.. dont do it..lol

I've never been but I heard it is expensive.  You could check out this site: http://www.new-york-tourist-attractions.... and see all of the tourist site and how much they cost.  I hope this helps!
