How much steak goes on a cheesesteak?

Starting a cheesesteak shop. I'm looking at the cost of ribeye ($15 a lb) and trying to determine how much should go on a sandwich to be profitable, and satisfying to the customer. 4oz per sandwich @ $7 per would return $28, but is 4oz enough for a good sandwich?

  1. 4-6 oz should be plenty...

    Meat and Meat Substitutes Group

A serving size of meat is 3 ounces for the Food Guide Pyramid, one ounce denotes one serving for the Diabetes Exchange Lists

  2. Subway steak and cheese sub is 6"--2.5 oz.

12"-5 oz. I think it is about 9.03 for the 12" here in Canada

  3. I work in a restaurant, and we put 5 ounces of meat on our hoagies. I don't know what the boss pays, but it's $6.95 with onions mushrooms peppers and cheese. And that's on an 8 inch hoagie roll. And it's $5.95 for just the steak and cheese, no veggies.

To be honest with you, they look like c**p. To me, there is just not enought meat on the hoagie.

We don't use ribeye. We use roast beef. It's very good. And we sell a lot of them. And the cook kind of chops up the meat as they are cooking it on the grill.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

  4. 1/4 lb is about the standard.
