My SAT test day is on Oct. 4th 2008.It's June 26th 2008 right now. So that gives me roughly 3 months and a week. This will be my first time taking it.I've already set my mind that'll study every single day no matter if its a couple of hours or a couple of minutes.I really want to do good.

I want a score of 2170 or more on the SAT

So how much studying do I need in terms of hours per day?

How should I study?A practice test a day?My dad being a teacher has access to alot of current and old SAT tests.

I got the 2009 edition of the Princeton Review Prep book is it good?

I got a 1520 on the PSAT last Oct.Albeit I did not study at all.AT ALL. There was a total of 124 questions on the test.I answered correctly 73 questions.I answered wrong 32 questions I omitted 19 questions total.

CR: 570

Math: 460

Writing:490 (No essay section for PSAT or else I thought I would've done much better)

  1. you have to study 6 hours in a day

  2. Ok! LISTEN TO ME!! I took the SAT the first time KNOWING that I could take it again so I didnt stress at all-I didnt even look at the prep book and I got 2000 -u should not set the standard of 2170 for ur first time -u can alwayyyss take it again-or even a third time-it really pays not to stress the first time taking it -if u are gonna study dont let it take over ur life-the psats seem very different that the actual sats to me-psat score does not measure actual sat score-u probably werent taking that one seriously-for the real one-dont stress but try ur best -I hope ur stress level goes down =) (although i know it wont until after college applications are finished =P) GOOD LUCK!

  3. Firstly, you need to think about where you want to go to college and what SAT scores you need to get in.

Second, you can't expect that if you study enough, you can get whatever score you need.  In my opinion and experience, raising your score by 650 points is unlikely.

I took the SAT the last year that is was only Math and Verbal.  I got two 630s.  I studied (maybe five separate occasions for an hour at a time) and managed to get two 660s.

Still, to do your best, I would suggest that you study for only an hour at a time.  You don't want to get frustrated or burn out on studying.  Practice tests are good.  You should start by taking one, locating your problem areas, and studying further in those areas.  Taking practice test after practice test is not going to help you improve.  I don't know anything about the specific book you mention, but I do know Princeton Review, and I think that its a good help.

Also, if the college or one of the colleges you want to go to accepts the ACT, I would think about taking it.  I did better on the ACT than the SAT (for reference, if the tests were scored as percentages like in school, I got a 82% on the SAT and a 94% on the ACT, quite a big difference).  I think that some people do better on one test over the other.

  4. To go from a 1520 to a 2170 is too much to expect your first time. SATs aren't something you study for, but preparing can help boost your score. Looking at old SAT tests and getting familiar with the format is important. Also remember that you can take it multiple times and combine your best scores. Don't get discouraged if you don't reach your goal the first try!
