I find that if I drive without sunglasses for about 20 minutes, I sleep well at night. But do the UV rays damage the eyes?

Thanx

  1. UV rays most certainly do damage the eyes, the more UV they get, the sooner you get cataracts. 20 minutes a day shouldn’t be that much though. People who work outside all day, especially on boats develop cataracts sooner than most. You might look into some really weak glasses that still block UV and see if that still helps you sleep.

  2. You will never know the answer for sure

    Reason:

    1) Harmful UV is invisible

    2) UV effects is cumulative i.e. it may be OK for a while but they accumulate

    3) There is a latency period before the effects hit you. I.e. say you are hit with a high dose of UV in the afternoon, the painful eye only sets in when you sleep at night!

    Suggestion:

Go for a photochromic lens (aka Transitions) that automatically detects UV
