Question:

How much taller will a 16 year old grow?

I'm 16 in 1 month, and my current height is quite varied. Recently I've been measured as 5'9" (175 cm) to 5'10" (178 cm). I have been measured over 5'10" wearing certain trainers. But I think my normal height is about 5'9" and a half. If Im nearly 5'10 now, and my Dad is 5'11 and Mum is 5'4 then how much more is there to grow? I know most guys are finished by about 19-21 but is there a good chance of me gaining another 2 inches and hitting 6'0?

Thanks

  1. I know a 14 year old lad and hes 6 ft 4 so i think if someone tht young can be tht tall i think you will grow taller

  2. First off, to the girl who said you stop growing at 18:  NO!!!  You'll probably continue to grow until you're 21.  I'd say you have a very good chance of hitting 6'.  A good indicator is knowing the height of your mother's brothers.  Most genes are passed diagonally (mom to son, dad to daughter).  So if her brothers are tall (if she has any), then you'll likely be tall, too.

  3. Well what I would think is that you would be done soon. If your mom is short and your dad isn't the tallest... You might grow another inch or two... get an ex ray and look at your bones.. or take it to your doctor and have him do it.. Me I am 14 5'8" and I still am growing. My mom is short and my dad is tall..

EDIT: I ment that 5'4" is short compared to your dad..... My mom is that same hight... I also depends on your grandparents.

  4. I was 5' 4" tall on my 17th birthday, grew 4" that year and another 4" over the next two years to hit the 6'.  You just can't tell.

  5. It's possible that you'll grow more and reach 6'0, but it's also possible that you'll stop growing completely or only grow a bit more. Most guys that I've known though if they grew after they were 16, only grew an inch or two if that, usually closer to an inch or less. Of course there are exceptions where people will suddenly shoot up just before they stop growing, but that's rare.

It varies completely between people so you can't really tell if you'll keep growing until you do. Some people will try judge by how tall other males in their family are but it's not a reliable way to tell.

  6. daveman I know a 17 year old who is 6'5'' and still growing!

p.s. I and you can't tell how much you will grow, it all depends on growth hormones, genetics, diet, activity and environment.  Is that a better answer?  or did you want an educated guess of around an inch under 6 foot, handsome with it, but unfortunately self absorbed about his looks and far too superficial mentally.

  7. i didnt stop growing till i was 18

you will start to slow down now but an extra inch is very possible from now until your 18

  8. yea you should easily gain another 2 inches!! I was a midget at 16 now im  about 6ft and still growing

  9. they stop about 18

  10. My parents are 5'5" and 5'2" and I am 5'11". I grew to 5'11" when I was 15 and never grew an inch more.

Judging by what you said, I think there is a chance for you to grow more but it's not very likely. I have many cousins who grew at around 15-16 but hardly any of them grew after 16-17.

Besides, it is said a healthy male will always be taller than the mother (since boys do get the genes from their mothers and girls from their fathers) so since you're already well over your mother's height, it's not certain that you will grow more. However if your mother was the one who is 5'11" then you'll almost definitely grow over that.

    Hope this helps.
