  1. I believe this varies by province. It should be the same as your sales tax, as far as I know.

It depends on what kind of groceries you are buying.  Most groceries are not taxable as they are considered a necessity (milk bread eggs etc).  In some instances, it epends on the quantity of the item you are buying.  If you buy a single bagel, it is taxed.  If you buy a dozen bagels, it is not (the logic being that you are, indeed, buying grociers and not just a snack for yourself).  Feminine hygiene products are taxed becuase according to some government bureacrat, women don't actually 'need' these items (the women disagree).

    If you look on your grocery bill, you usually see a star or letter next to the specific items to which tax applies.  It's only a few items that are considered to not be a necessity.

  3. Basic food stuff and groceries are zero rated for GST purposes.  There are items at the grocery store that you do pay tax one (Single serving items).  One Muffin 5% GST 6 Muffins Tax Free
