How much tax refund i get if i'm non resident visitor to canada.?

I'm on business visa in Canada for a meeting. I'm planning to purchase an item of 500$ + taxes here. I heard that i will get all the tax refunded at the airport when i go back after two months.Will I , i went to this site

to get more information but it was hard to interpret over there how much rebate will i get or what do they mean by short term accommodation.

  1. The Refund Program has been cancelled.

    Why, when? Follow the link given below.


  2. Travelers to Canada can no longer receive a refund on the GST for items purchases while in Canada.  The refund program was cancelled a while ago.

  3. You should be entitled to the G.S.T, which is 5%. I believe you need to show proof of purchase, and (on some occasions) the actual goods themselves.

  4. If it is an item that is for export, in other words not for use within Canada, then yes, you can file for a refund.  It isn't issued at the airport, but I believe you have to have something signed at customs to show it left the country.  The amount will be the GST of 5%.
