Hello, I am not too sure about this kinda thing so thought I would ask so I dont lose out. I am a full-time university student currently on summer break. I am earning around £200 pounds a week (£7/hour). I will only be working for around 10 weeks. Any idea?

  1. http://www.listentotaxman.com/

The best site to work this out.

  2. No tax. As you are a student, only working at vacation time, employer can obtain form P38S for you to sign. He will not then deduct tax, and should refund what you have already paid.

If you work all year, albeit part-time, you are treated as a normal employee, and form P46 applies.

NIC will still be deductible, as that is payable each month/week in isolation.

  3. I think that as a student you can earn up to £4k before you're taxed - or is it £2K.... - sorry

  4. 0 tax you have to earn at least £5000 a year before you are taxed.

  5. if throughout the year april08-apr09 this is all u earn then whatever tax u do pay u will be albe to claim back as everyone gets a tax free alowance of nearly £6000 a year, so if u earn under this no tax is paid
