I've been thinking about a solution for this problem, even googling it. But it does not show you and nobody i asked knows this. Who knows how long eyes can resist a computer screen before damaging the eye...

  1. Not sure, but I had a job for 2 1/2 years about 12 hours a day, some days 16 hours and my vision was fair when I started, when I left, I was barely able to see past my hand in front of my face.  I was still fairly young when this happened, l had lasik and it was truly the best thing I ever did for myself.  I really believe all that time on the computer really did ruin my eyes.  Hope this somewhat helps.

  2. I work on PCs, and the health and safety rules state that if you are in a job where you are constantly looking at the screen, such as someone who cannot leave their desk as they work on a call centre for example, you have to have a break every four hours. On jobs where you can leave your desk, the Health and Safety people don't enforce this.

It affects different people in different ways, so there is no limit as to how long you can spend on a PC without it damaging your eyes, but try looking away from the screen at a point a distance away every now and again to give your eyes a rest.
