Question:

How much time should I allow between train changes in the UK?

Will be traveling from London to small town in Cumbria by train. Several itineraries are possible. Most desirable has two train changes with only about 10 minutes between scheduled arrivals and departures. Is this enough time or too big a risk given that trains to final destination (Silecroft) are infrequent?

  1. Far to risky, allow more time

  2. It depends where the changes are. If they're at small stations, then you'll most likely find that there are only a few platforms, and that 10 minutes is plenty of time to make the connection.

If it's a larger station (like anything in London, Birmingham, Manchester) then I'd allow 20 minutes.

Also, if it involves a walk (for example, Birmingham New Street to Birmingham Snow Hill) then give yourself plenty of time. I'd allow at least 40 minutes. Better to be too early than stranded.

I would guess your train is going along that route, though- through Birmingham, Manchester and Warrington.

Which stations does it say to change at?

    --Edit--

I've just looked on the trainline website, and it has two options.

    1) Change in Lancaster. It allows about 30 minutes for this. Lancaster isn't a large station, so you could easily do that in 10- 15 minutes.

    2) Change in Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness. This is a tidgy station, and it'd probably take 5 minutes top to change platform
