How much time should i spend in auckland?

i was wanting to go to auckland for a few days on my way to south america. how much time will i need to see sites/tourist attractions???

5 minutes, you can see most of em from the air on short final.

3 or 4 days.  Kelly Tarltons, Museum of Transport and Technology & Zoo (think MOTAT & Zoo still do a 2-fer).  The harbour bridge walk.  Take a ferry to Waiheke and spend a relaxing day wine tasting.  Only about 35 minutes from the city.  The Sky Tower view is incredible and if you're game, you can bunjee off it.

If it just a few days you should be able to cover a great deal of the city, depending on your interests.

I particularly like MOTAT (Museum of transport and technology, the Zoo and Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium.
