Stalactites can grow very quickly. Some have been observed to grow more than half an inch per year. The largest stalactites and flowstones could have formed in a few thousand years.

Underground , it takes thousands of years for an inch of stalagmite to form .I know of a railway tunnel with stalagtites nearly three inches long. the tunnel was built in 1856.It depends on the amount of water flowing , the acidity of the water and how much limestone is dissolved in the water.
