  3. I almost always pay 20% of the pre-tax cost of the meal.

    Calculating in your head is easy:  Take 10% of the amount and double it.  

    Example:  $24.24 X 10% = $2.42.  $2.42 + 2.42 = $4.84.  I round up, so my tip would be $5.00 for a meal costing $24.24

    Waitressing is hard work and most of their pay is derived from tips.  

    I would never tip less than 15% unless the waitress did a lousy job.  Never punish the waitress for the sins of the Chef - if the food was bad, it's the Chef fault,not the waitress.
