We need to save money for our wedding, but have no idea how much to plan for. It will take place in Ohio...

We don't need anything extravagant, but don't want a back yard wedding. I plan on spending no more than $400 on my dress... other than that... i have no idea.

  2. First decide what type of wedding you want - garden - church - registry office - Caribbean island etc. Then how many people do you want to invite. Next start calling around and look at venues and get an idea of your costs. You can then either cut back on the numbers or look at cheaper options. If you do a lot of work and research yourself you will save money. As a bonus, the more effort you put in the more you will enjoy and appreciate the day. Just remember it is meant to be fun. Enjoy..

  3. All together, you can figure a minimum about $75 per person, which includes everything-- food, flowers, location, etc. So if you invite 50 people figure close to $4000. It's not an exact science, just a basic rule of thumb. Of course the more extravagant, the higher the price per person is.

  4. I'm having a small wedding in Michigan, and my simple wedding is going to cost almost 9,000 dollars... and that's a cheap wedding. Good luck!

  5. You need to talk with vendors before you make your budget. Call around and ask about the type of wedding you want. The major expenses are catering and the venue and you'll probably find they're more expensive than you would have guessed.

  6. I would suggest you figure out what you have and then set a budget and make it work.  A wedding can be done on a $2,000 budget or a $2million budget.  Remember that a lot of times if you find a vendor you really want but is out of your price range you can talk to them and explain that they are who you really want but it is just too much. They maybe able to lower the cost for you.  There are a lot of places you can save on a wedding, a lot of the time it turns into sweat equity though, such as self catering.  Good Luck!!

  8. Start calling vendors. The big expense will be the reception (food, drink, etc.) Things add up quickly, so just do a "practice run" and try to figure out what is important to you and where you want to spend your money.
