I was asked by a student to tutor high school chemistry 12. I just graduated from high school and I'm starting university in UBC in september. I was the top chemistry student in a graduating class of about 470 and have given top rankings in every chemistry contest in grade 11. I started teaching chemistry in grade 9 (I was 3 grades ahead in chemistry) so I have 3-4 years experience but I have never charged anyone anything for helping them before. I'm thinking of charging $10/hr for 2 hours a time but I really don't know. do i go to their place or they would come to my place? What is the standard rate students charge other students? I'm thinking that to tutor someone requires beforehand preparation of lessons from my previous experience so that would mean that I would make less than minimum wage in the province.

  1. I paid $30 and hour for a college math (300 level) tutor, and in my area, that is about the average for h.s and college level.

  2. If you have that much experience and awards, you could probably charge 20-60 for about an hour, but it also depends on the niehgborhood. It's the same as tutoring any other subjects, but you also have to discuse with the parent of the child. But usually 20-60$ is usually good.
