How much to cut down a tree in my yard?

I have a 30' tree in the yard, I want it cut down. Removal is not needed and I want the trunk left standing about 12'. This is in New York, the Monroe-Woodbury area.

Well we had one cut down last year and it was an oak tree.

It cost us $300 here in NC and they cut it into smaller pieces for firewood.

In NY it most likely will be much higher.

Call three companies and have them come out to give you an estimate.

Then take your pick.  I say three, because two really isn't enough.
