Someone decided to pull out of a parking spot even when they don't have enough room and scratched up NEW 2 week old car! There is about a 1" x 2" long scratch that I can see the metal and like 8 scratches about 6 - 8" long along the left side of the rear of the car. I want to get it fixed but how much would it cost me? I don't even know where I should go get it fixed at!

  1. As it is a new car it should be done by a professional bodyshop. It may be worthwhile checking your warranty details as some manufacturers will say it invalidates your warranty if the work is not done by a main dealer.

Trouble with having it repaired by a main dealer is that it will be very expensive! (and not any better than if it was done by a good independant bodyshop)

Although it is difficult to assess the cost without seeing the vehicle, i would guess you are looking at somewhere in the region of £200/500 if the work was done at an independant bodyshop.

As you can now see bare metal where its been scratched, you should make sure the panel is dry and smear a light coating of grease over the metal to stop it rusting before you get it repaired.

If you dont have grease then something like Vaseline will do the job. Just make sure the bare metal is covered and cannot get wet otherwise the panel will start to rust and you could have serious problems in the future.

  2. There are plenty of mobile paint repairers out there who will come to you and repair the paint damage from as little of £20 - £250 depending on the paint finish. If your car has Pearlesent paint then the car has to go to a auto bodies as the whole side needs to be resprayed which would cost £400 plus.

  3. Look in Yellow Pages for a local scratch repair service. Cheapest quotes I got was £70 per panel.

  4. Is the scratch close to the bumper or is it in the middle of the panel or near the door.If it is close to the bumper the paint shop will need to paint the bumper if it's close to the door they might need to paint the door as well for color match. And it might need some body work depending on how deep the scratches are and if their is any minor damage to the panel. You are probably talking around $2000 $3000 minimum.but this is just a guess because I would need more details about the damage.

  5. maybe $500
