Whats an average price to get the brakes and rotors on a mid-90s Maxima done at your average car repair shop? I need to get this done pretty soon. Any places I should avoid?

  1. $160.00.....good luck!

  2. I did both sides of my truck for $80.00 total

If you have the tools, time, and know how, you can buy the parts and do it yourself. Save about $200-$250   ask some friends too, they may do them for a few buck (just make sure they know what they are doing)

    Good luck

  3. I know you want for a maxima but here's me input I just did brake pads and rotors on my chevy truck and it cost around 400.00$ for parts with shop discount and did the work myself

  4. I am not familiar with that type of car but when I had my car's brake pads replaced and the rotors were sanded it cost within $228 . IF you know someone that has changed their own brakepads you can save much on the cost of that , just the price of the pads usually.

If not, then the service shop will charge more for doing this always. The rotors should be sanded down to prevent the new pads from wearing down sooner, if you've never had the brakepads changed before and had the car for years you may need them replaced though.

I would get 2 or 3 estimates. Call around and see if there is a place where they do free estimates on brakes but avoid Sears Auto, they backed my car off the rack in the shop and smashed it into a pole. They paid for the damage they did and I didn't even need the brakes replaecd that time. They offered a free brake pad inspection ,but I ended up with a rental car due to their error that had my rear bumper and one tail light being replaced.

  5. should be under 300 don't let them sell you calipers to unless you totally need them

  6. I used to go to Monroe Muffler for many years, do not go there, they ripped me off, go to advance Auto or Auto Zone, ask for the brakes and rotors you need and get someone to put them on for you if you do not know how to do it yourself.

I am guessing anywhere from $20-30 for brakes and maybe around $60-80 for the rotors, just estimating, costs I had when I got mine done, but it may vary depending on names

  7. I payed like 375 for a pathfinder... depends on the car

  8. Do you have a Just Brakes in your town? Or anyplace that specializes in only brakes is good.

Don't bother with Pepboys they will lie to you about the pricing in order for you to say yes and then begin the work and "notify you" it was worse than they thought, and it'll cost more.

  9. Avoid Midas and Sears.   Get 3 or 4 estimates and include a Nissan dealer.  Oftentimes dealers aren't much higher, install better pads and are more reputable than the brake/muffler shops some of which have high employee turnover with minimal training.

  10. If you live any where near meadville pennsylvania it will cost you price of parts and about $65 for me to do it for you.
