Question:

How much to pay for carpooling?

I am trying to set up a carpool with a fellow student. Since my family is down to one vehicle, I would like to ride all the time. What would be a proper amount to offer the person driving based on miles per gallon, cost of gas, etc? Is there a formula for this, or would a flat rate per mile be more appropriate?

It currently costs me about $7.50 in gas every time I make the trip, but I don't know how to factor in other costs.

Thanks!

  1. Give them the 7.50$ or ask what they want.  It's better than paying gas and repairs on your own vehicle. I hated it when I car pooled and the loosers I rode with tried to cheap out when it was time to fill the tank.  Remember it's their car be nice take your trash and give them money without them having to ask.

  2. Maybe look for carpools that you pay for weeks worth gas at a time? trade off/ weeks, or figure your mileage normal gas consumptiom add $2.00 per day for oil and other stuff that should be right also get that in writing like a contract..

your total per day shouldn't be more than your paying now keep split equal at all times.. not more than a bus ride/ $5.00 per day!
