Looks like I'll be away for 4 weeks in January. My neighbor who lives a few doors down from me offered to check our house at least twice a week, check the mailbox for junkmail (everything else will be held by the post office) and her husband will shovel the front walkway and driveway.
Will give her a key to come into the house and make sure everything's OK. Said they'd do it for free, but they're a young couple with a young family and I'd like to give them some cash. A thank you card and bottle of wine wouldn't be enough IMHO. Based on previous winters, snow removal will be at least once a week, takes less than an hour. Checking the inside and perimeter of the house should take about 15 minutes at the most.
Any suggestions how much I should offer to pay them for their services? They are very good neighbors and have known them for almost 10 years, but feel guilty not giving them some cash to do this favor for me. My family is unreliable!
