I am going back to the UK from Australia and want to take my cat - Can anyone tell me how much the whole process would cost and how long in quarantine and what the procedures are?

Thx

  1. Not sure about Australia to UK, but the other way, UK to Australia, you are looking from about GBP £1,500 upwards, plus another AUS $700-$800 to including quarantine etc.

Here are two links for Australian Pet shippers that should be able to answer all your questions.

    www.jetpets.com.au

    www.skypet.com.au

  2. You can now get pet passports, but I don't know if these only apply within the EU.

Normally, cats have to stay in quarantine for 6 months. To stay in a cattery it'll also have to have proof of all its vaccines.

The journey will be horrendous for it- imagine spending 25 hours in the cargo section of a plane, not to mention the discomfort of taking off and landing. Can cats' ears pop? I don't know...

I know that you want to keep your cat, but perhaps it would be in the cat's interest to leave it behind. It probably wouldn't recover from that level of trauma.

If you're determined to bring it, I'd ask your vet. They should know the specific rules about transporting animals- I know Australia has quite strict rules about their customs
