  1. Yeah, I worked at Olive Garden and we made like $2.65/hr.  Then you get tips and it usually averages out to $8-10 after tipping out the bus boys.

  2. It depends on where you work.  I used to be a waiter and would make about $100 per night back in the 1970's.  I asked a local (Palm Springs, CA) waiter what he makes and he said it's normally about $500 - $700 per night.  He said that on a REALLY good night with lots of large tables and lots of wine and drink tabs he could make $1,500 in a night.  I've always known most waiters in "good" restaurants to make a very good living.  The trick is to work where the people are affluent, like the country club or a resort or a high end restaurant like The Chart House or a good steak house.

  3. balooney, they make much more than minimum wage and a good one knows how to serve to get very good tips, but when they bring hair in the food, can't remember what you ordered, no clean tables, no refills unless you ask, ten to twelve bucks for a dry lousy sandwich,  among other things then no tip and minum wage is to much..and I see many of them driving a better vehicle than I can afford

  4. minimum wage for waitress or job that have tip is two dollars something. some people give a little but most give 15% minimum.

  5. it depends on the state you live in and what the minimum wage is. I know some states minumum wage is like 2.00 an hour...but here in california it is 7.75 an hour

  6. Generaly half what minimum wage is (somewhere in neighborhood right now of $2.11/hr) except in California, Nevada, and maybe NY...they generaly have to share thier tips with busboys, bartenders and in some places hostess.

  7. I waited tables in college and made the minimum wage plus tips, but there were no bus people.  Tips were small and sometimes none.

I know somebody who waits tables now for $2.15 per hour, but makes big tips.  He makes about $12 per hour after giving the bus people their percentage.

  8. yep that's why you should tip
