Some of my friends shoplift sometimes (not big stuff, just a shirt at Urban Outfitters and stuff like that) and I was wondering how much trouble they would be in if they got caught. Thanks :)

  1. depending on how old you are will depend on if you get a slap on the wrist or a fine and juvy and on how much the items cost.  if your under 15 or 16 probably not much but your parents might get fined and youmight get a minor criminal record.  if your 17 or older youll probably get anything from a minor to adult criminal record and it all depends on your school records as well and if the company presses charges against your friends.  my advice would be to stay away from them because even if you dont do it youll be guilty by association and they might try to charge you too.

  2. my sister got caught, she had to pay for the items even though she didn't get to keep them, she is banned from Nordstroms for life, and had to do community service (stole a couple hundred bucks worth of clothes)

  3. the first time, probably a just verbal warning or community service

though they could get sent to juvenile hall if it happens again

  4. you can go to Juvenile hall It is Theft no matter the age.

Also in case you do not know it IF they get caught while you are with them YOU to can get arrested.

You need to get better friends.

These are hopeless and soon to be in jail anyway

  5. Don't know in america (assuming thats where you live). But in New Zealand it depends. You definitely get baned from that shop for at least a few years. The police usually get involved. They will talk to you and your parents, depending on what you stole a bit of community service may be suggested but mostly not. Thats about it. Seriously I would not do it and not go with them to any shops if you think they might do it. You will get caught and even if your not the one doing it you may end up punished. 3 of my friends shoplifed hair stuff from the supermarket next to our school but only one actually took the stuff the other 2 just watched. They got caught and all 3 went down. Banned for 3 years and major detentions and talks with the police. Honestly DON'T DO IT!!!

  6. It all depends on the store.  Most stores call the police, you have to go to court, pay a fine of about $500.00 and can't go back in to that store for a year.  If it is in a mall the entire mall will prohibit  them from going inside.  They will have a criminal record.  Sometimes they have to do community service for the store such as cleaning the floors for a certain amount of time under strict supervision.  By the way sop lifting costs everyone money because stores have to raise their prices to pay for the stolen items.

  7. The penalty usually is bearable but totally not worth it. My guess would be a fine and or community service. Regardless it creates a lot of BS you have to go through. Not to mention you'll pay 100+ dollars for that 20.00 tee shirt that you don't get to keep.

  8. im 14 and ive gotten in trouble with the cops before.

not for shoplifting but it still wasnt fun.

i had to go through this program that involved community service, writing a letter to apologize to my parents and school and making a chart.

    it sucks!

  9. if your friends get caught, their records (what the police have on them) wouldn't be so great anymore...

not that much trouble, it's just embarassing to be taken away by security or w/e

my friend was caught before and had to pay a 100 dollar fine, but sometiems it might be more.

  10. They would probably embarrass the heck out of mom and dad. But probably have to go see a judge and if it was there first offense end up doing some type of community service.

  11. It depends on the individual policy of the store.  It could be a call to parents and ban from the store to community service to a fine to time in jail.  It depends on if the store presses charges and then what happens in court.

  12. Mostly just get told off by the officals. But, sometimes, depending on the police officer that is currently on duty, sometimes they would take you down to the correctional facility and in a holding cell until one of the parents could come pick you up.

  13. I think it depends on the store, wither or not they want to involve the police chances are they'll probably be banned from the store or the mall and charges could laid

  14. Ugh, I got caught in claire's stealing ONE PAIR OF EARRINGS for my friend [stupid I know] So they sent me to a class which costs 200$, plus a fine for another 200$, or else you go to court. Luckily my parents bailed me out with the 400$ and I only had to go to an hour class about stealing- really corny  by the way, the video they showed is like 15 years old so the humor is horrific. DON'T GET CAUGHT! or just dont steal. Either one is good :)

  15. i did it once, and i have to go to juvenile prison. my life is all screwed up now. don't do it.

  16. If you want to be a good friend tell them to stop but  if they say no tel then they've been warned if they do it again contact the nearest law enforcement officer or trusted adult. Better to stop their habit now before they do something worse. The worse that could happen if it was just a shirt would roughly if lucky a warning. But as previously stated just warn them if not then you'll know.

  17. WELL MY FRIEND IS 15 AND SHE GOT CAUGHT SHOPLIFTING TWO BATHING SUITS AND SHE GOT ARRESTED AND TAKEN TO THE POLICE STATION FOR HER MOM TO PICK HER UP. THEN SHE WENT TO COURT AND GOT PUT ON UNSUPERVISED PROBATION WHERE SHE JUST HAD TO LISTEN TO A CD AND ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS AND SEND IT IN TO THE COURT SYSTEM BUT IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHERE UR AT, WHO CAUGHT YOU, HOW MUCH TROUBLE YOU'VE BEEN N BEFORE, AND A LOT OF TIMES WHAT YOU STOLE AND HOW MUCH IT WAS WORTH. IT IS REALLY RIDICULOUS THOUGH. BUT TRUST ME YOU DONT WANT TO GET CAUGHT, IT IS A SCARY EXPERIENCE!

  18. You could lose your myspace privileges and be forbidden from enjoying your post-college quarterlife crisis.

  19.   It depends on the local (city) authority.  Results range from serving 'time' right in the place you committed the offense to a heavy first timers penalty that can range from getting to reflect behind bars to a heavy fine.  This ones usually up to the judge but can involve jurors depending on your plea or weather the plaintiffs seek to mercilessly seek penalties and restitution.  Watch it, don't assume the judges position on this one!

  20. First off, EVERYTHING is big when you steal it, whether its gum or a shirt ... Second, it depends on where you live and how old they are. I am a clothing store manager, and I have charged people, and I have scared people. 15 Y.O's, get banned from the store/mall, parents are called, and police escorted home ... may be charged. Anyone over 16, I charge, I call the police and charge their cheap little asses - people are so dumb. GET A JOB AND BUY YOUR s**+* !!! LOL

  21. Peer pressure is one reason why people shoplift. Some might do it to seem cool or daring. Some do it because their friends shoplift and they want to be part of the group. Some people shoplift because they want things their classmates have but can't afford them.

Some people shoplift to see what they can get away with. They may do it as a way to challenge authority or be nonconformist. Or they may get a rush out of doing something risky that has the potential to get them in serious trouble. Others do it as a way to get attention from parents or friends.

A few people shoplift because they see it as a way of getting back at a store they don't like or a company whose values they question. But shoplifting rarely affects the store as much as it affects the people who shop there. Some stores may add the cost of shoplifting into their prices. So the people shopping there are the ones paying extra, not the stores.

  22. a bunch load...

if caught you would be held and your parents will be called..

they might even call the cops or you will be banned from the store or mall ...

    why would you shoplift..

be a freakin human and buy something instead of being a bum and stealing

  23. First of all, you shouldn't hang out with people that break the law. They can get into a lot of trouble for STEALING. It's also a Ten Commandment you know: Thou shall not steal. Also, if you are ever with them when they steal something and they get caught, you are in big trouble too for being an accomplice.

  24. It depends on the cost of what you attempted to steal. It's a misdemeanor and ranges from A about 2,000 dollar fine and up to 180 days in Jail, B 2,000 or 180 days in Jail, or C a fine ranging from 500 to 800 dollars

  25. A LOT

you don't want to mess with that.

and I advise that you not be around them when they're doing that. If they get caught, you fall with them and get in just as much trouble.

Trust me, it's not worth it.

  26. umm im not sure, i have never been caught.. but like the only thing i take are stuff from like wal-mart... like a candy bar or really small stuff...

not something big like clothing, jewelry, or toys

  27. my best friend Jordyn is 13 and she got caught last month shoplifting at our pronto store. her mom punished her severely + she is not allowed back 2 the store for 1 year.

  28. The actual extent of the law I dont' know...but don't do it...it wont' be worth it and you will pay for this off and on for the rest of your life...and she will pay for it for the rest of her life...it will haunt one...and then if friends of hers were to find out...or her parents...or trying to get a job if a record is held on file...then explaining this to one's children when they are teenagers...et et et...  IT AIN'T WORTH IT!!!!

  29. arrest you then call your parents to have then pick you up, btu it really depends on the state a 488 PC is a petty theft and you will either have to go to juvie court or go straight to a probation officer with your parents and he or she will decide your punishment, and I think you have to go to the probation officer many times until you are off probation, and sometimes community service. But that's the extent for a petty theft for the first offense. But they will go hard on you trust me when I say that. And I would tell them to stop if I were you, it doesnt matter if they only take a few things at a time, they have camras in stores you know and they can look up those tapes and see all the times your friends have stolen from them, if its more then 4 times its a felony and they will go to jail for at least 96 days, not fun stuff I would tell them to stop while they have a chance!!!!!

  30. well i think when they get caught by the store, they get them at the door and take them to their office and call their parents and from there, they continuee i know this because i've seen it happen but i would never do sucha thing i don't have the guts to

  31. 18 or older they could probably get you arrested, depending on what country your from it could be anything.
