How much uncooked pasta?

If i need 4.5 cups of cooked penne pasta, how much dry uncooked pasta should i start out with. I forget the formula...thanks to all who reply

  1. 1/4 lb. should be sufficient. Penne noodles are larger so it won't take much for only 4.5 cups.


  2. pasta triples in size

    1.5 cups of pasta.

    per person for appetizer 2 OZ. per person

    per person main course 4 OZ. per person
