How much units of insulin should be taken by a diabetic whose fasting has lowered to 114 from 250?

my mother is a diabetic since 1998. she is taking pioglit and metlong twice a day and 30 units of insulin. her fasting is now lowered to 114. she is into yoga too. so is this amount of insulin sufficient for her or she should stop taking insulin?

  1. Only her doctor can really answer that.  Taking the insulin is what has lowered her fasting sugar and if she quit taking the insulin it could go up again.  


  2. people have different degrees of resistance so you need to ask her doctor rather than someone here

You really shouldn't adjust the amount of insulin you take without first discussing it with your doctor or diabetic educator and definately shouldn't stop taking it all together.  Maybe you should look at what your mother is eating and if that is the cause of her blood-glucose level dropping.  Is she experiencing a large number of hypo's???  

  4. She needs to talk to her doctor or nutritionist for this information.  If she has made changes to her medications, it has apparently worked for her.  But she needs to ask her doctor if she needs to keep it at this dosage.  Her other daily readings would need to be taken into consideration, as well as what she is eating.
