  1. Who the @@@@ told you to use vinegar. Use proper pH adjusters  and testers.

  2. I don't think I would pour vinegar in the pond.

You need to take a responsible approach for a solution and learn what causes the string alge in the first place.

    EXCERPT:

    Two Types

    1.       Suspended algae/green water/plankton/pea soup/single cell algae

    2.       String algae/blanket weed/hair algae/filamentous algae.

    Causes

    1.       (((Excess debris on pond bottom can cause string algae.))))

    1.       Increase circulation to edges.

    2.       Manually clean edges with your hand or soft brush.

    4.       Create shade with ((50% to 70%)) [shade cloth below]

plant coverage over surface of pond.  (((Add plants  to compete with algae for nutrients.)))

    a.      Water lilies’ spreading pads shade the water

    floating plants like

(((((water lettuce and water hyacinth)))) with free roots absorb nutrients directly from water and help block light

    A NOTE OF CAUTION

on these plants place them towards the edges of the pond in the water until they begin to multiply the fish love to eat the tiny white roots and will eventually kill the water lettuce and hyacinth.

You don't say if the pond in a farm pond or a garden pond....It won't make any difference the treatment should be the same.

If it's a small garden pond you can try this.

Shade cloth creates a cool, shaded environment for plants or animals

Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey says using "shade cloth" over parts of the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland could protect it from the harmful effects of global warming.
