  1. In 65 years not a single atomic weapon has been used and the only 2 in history were used  by the United States against Japan. Nuclear weapons have been the greatest deterrent of world wars in history. It would be suicide for any country, including the US to use them. There are at this moment nuclear submarines patrolling the oceans by the US, Britain and Russia ready for such an event which, in my opinion will never happen   God bless the atomic bomb.

  2. I don't think the threat is nuke as much as it is biological. In which case, you wouldn't know until bodies started dropping.

  3. depends on where you are.  In the US in the northern tier of states, not much.  In Florida, more time.  Approx 15 mins average.

Move to Nebraska but not Omaha.  SAC is located in Omaha.  Move to North Dakota, but near a missile base.  Move to .... oh, h**l, there is no safe place.

  4. About 20 minutes. That's about all the time you'd have to do whatever it is you plan on doing before you die!

  5. If Russia launched it's nukes from Russia there would probably be about 30 min. or so warning. Our satellites would see the launches. The scary thing is if they were able to get missiles in to Cuba, and launch them from there we wouldn't have much warning at all. Especially on the East coast of the US. Also if they were able to get their submarines off the coast of the US without us knowing it, they could launch and we wouldn't have much warning. But our Navy is always on the lookout for submarines.

  6. That is a very good question .  When satellites detect incoming nuclear warheads, the president and prime minister would be alerted, and they give the ok to launch their nuclear weapons.

Radio and tv stations all have a warning system in place so they would be alerted.  They would probably be alerted maybe 30 minutes before the attack.  That may give people enough time to find some "kind" of shelter.  If people are at home, they could go to areas without windows and take enough food there.

And pay no attention to the bottom guy there.  Nuclear War WILL most likely spell doom to America as we know it.  Look at what the Soviets had and STILL HAVE.  Combine that what other rouge nations have.  You're gonna tell me that all those warheads won't leave the US a burned out shell.  Yes, people will survive but who will govern them.  Who is going to be thinking about voting or paying taxes when number one, millions of people have died and/or their property destroyed and two, all that will be on their minds is getting non radioactive water and food to consume, which will hardly exist.    Man, the Project for New American Century will tow the neo con line.

  7. For me almost instantly since I live along the high line where approx 40% of our Nuclear Arsenal is kept. for the rest of country a little longer for the media to pick it up and pass it on, if they did at all. Or as the first guy said about 20-25 minutes depending on where you live.

  8. are you asking about warning as stated, or warming as some of the answers imply?

if you meant warning, the answer is there have been, and still are plenty of warnings.

if you meant warming, don't worry about that, there will be nothing left to worry about.

  9. Not much time darlin, not much at all....................

  10. none,it will be better if we don't know when it hits.

  11. What would it matter? the people who survive will wish they died in the exchange. Everything would be reduced to a radioactive wasteland nothing would grow and nuclear winter would follow. The survivors would be gathered and live under military control like live stock.

  12. If a nuclear weapon were launched against the US, it would most likely be released from a ship.  Iran doesn't have the capability of striking the US from their country.  They do, however, have the ability to launch an attack on Israel.

How much time would we have?  That would depend on where it was launched from.  Any country that was determined to start a nuclear war would want to get as close as possible to launch with the least possible chance of our intercepting.  That could mean so little notice that it wouldn't reach the ears of most of those who would be affected.

Surprisingly, we would survive the impact very well, unless we happened to be at ground zero.  It's the second phase of the bombing that would cause the greatest destruction of life.  That would be the fallout (radioactivity).

Oh....let's see....you asked "How long...", I'm going too far.

    Sorry!

  13. We've had warnings for 50 years.

Liberals prefer to keep their heads in the sand and whine.

Conservatives have been preparing and staying informed.

Everything you believe about nuclear war is propaganda.

It's NOT the end of the world.

Unfortunately YOU believe it, so the anti-defense and anti nuclear power groups own you.

Just smile, do what they tell you to do, vote like they tell you, don't think for yourselves, and the mean man won't bomb you.

  14. There used to be a national alarm system consisting of sirens.

If the network still exists, people probably wouldn't know what the alarm was about.

So your first clue will be the metallic taste in your mouth as your eyes get flash burned.

  15. you would have enough time to bend over and kiss your a ss goodbye. but seriously, once one nuke gets set off, there will be more, it would be called ww3 and it would suck for all id give it 25 to 45 minute warning. einstein said it best... when he said that ww4 would be faught with sticks and stones

  16. I'll say 30 mins if we know of the attack but then again for the govt. to announce the attack and for the news to reach people all over will be like too slow so i suppose in that case 5-10 mins is the stipulated time.

25 - 45 mins shud be the warning period.

  17. 15 to 20 minutes tops.No need to worry about it.By the time they figured it out and got confirmation and decided what to do we will be history. They(government) accepts some casualties as a normal occurrence if such a thing should happen. It would depend mostly on what part of our country got hit.We are all expendable.
