I got my water bill today- for a family of 4 it was over $700. We have been in our house for over 2 years (new home). Never been over $66.00 even when we use sprinklers. I called my water provider and read them the reading off of the meter, it was correct. I read the meter when everything in the house was off, dishwasher, washer etc...and the meter was not "spinning." Even the water company told me this was extremely high and they are going to send someone out to check. I was just curious as to how much water 240,000 worth of use was equal to....

  1. My swimming pool is 36 feet long, 18 feet wide and nine feet deep in the deep end.  It is calculated to hold 22,000 gallons.  So, you are looking at eleven or so fairly large backyard pools!

  2. Well you could have done 24,000 loads of laundry (at 10 gallons each) or flushed the toilet 80,000 times (3 gallons each).   Wow!   I hope they straighten this out for you.

  3. Nurse it will take the outdoor faucet on my house 21 days to run that much water.

    Good Luck

  4. 1 gallon is 8lbs, 240000 gallons is a h**l of alot. same thing happen to my friend he got a bill for $5000 and it turned out the water company sent him a bill for the whole block he lived on. good luck.

  5. A typical water tower use see in most towns is 75-100,000 gallons. I believe your meter reader has issues. The large round water tanks you see average about 250,000. So there is a good point of reference.

  6. There could've been a problem with a meter while during your billing cycle.  240,000 gallons is a s**+TLOAD of water.  There could be a burst water pipe somewhere on your property.

Most likely it's just a meter reading or clerical error.  But still, WOW.

  7. A typical tanker truck like you would see delivering gasoline holds 8000 gallons. So that would be 30 tanker trucks of water !!!! I would not believe you could loose that much water even with a leak. Since the meter recorded it , the leak would have to be somewhere near or in your house after the meter. 30 truckloads would wash away any house.
