Question:

How much water is too much water?

Lately I've stopped drinking soda, and I drink mainly water. Some days I drink very much water, not only to make sure I'm hydrated, but also because too much salt is bad for the heart, thus drinking more water will make this less of a problem (right?).

So what I was wondering is, how much water is too much in 1 day, with little or almost no sweat?

Thanks in advance

  1. you can never have too much water. two thirds of your body is made of water. drink as much as you want, and anything that is left over, that is why we go to the bathroom.

  2. There really is no real limit to too much water. For proper health and hydration we need 1 ounce for every 2 pounds of body weight plus 8 more ounces for every 20 minutes of exercise. With hot/dry climates and days we need even more. Some of the water can come from foods and other drinks however caffeine and alcohol actually dehydrate us so they cannot be counted towards water intake. In fact with caffeine and alcohol we should consume more water.

Now we can still consume more water then that. If we do it will decrease the amount of food we eat and help cleanse us better. In fact you can even fast which is consuming just water. This can be done in increments of 3, 5, 7, 10, and 40 days. When fasting you drink much more water than listed above.

The only real way that you can really have too much water is by consuming a large amount in a very short time. Faster than you being able to excrete it within 15 minutes of even vomit up water. But normal peoople never do stuff like that.

  3. Not a clue... but you CAN OD on water. Laugh all you want but it's true. I did. I was sick as a dog for a full day. It felt like I was having a heat stroke. Miserable.

  4. ive never heard of anyone having too much water unless they havent drank anything for like 24 hours

then they have to drink it slower

  5. There were actually these parents who abused their child by making them drink large amounts of water, and it ended up killing the child, as for the water absorbing the salt it should  cause salt is hydrophilic and "wants" to get absorbed. If you aren't being very active, and depending on your size about 2.5 - 3 gallons ( 9.4 - 10 liters) of water should be deadly.

  6. 64 oz is supposed to be the magic number of ounces of water that you should consume during a day. However; if you exercise you need to drink until you are hydrated.

One way to tell if you are hydrated is to look at your urine. If is dark yellow almost gold colored then you are dehydrated. If the urine is almost clear you are well hydrated.
