Question:

How much water should I be drinking when running 3 miles? (easy 10 points!!)?

well, today i ran 2.8 miles straight, and walked .4 of a mile.

During that run, i drank one entire water bottle regular and normal sized. I drank once i reached mile 1, mile 2, and then mile 3.

My stomach is extremely bloated now, and I really don't have to go to the bathroom.

so i was wondering if that was too much water for that run? or how much should i be drinking?

im 17, 5'5'', and 125 lbs

  1. I would say just have a 250ml or around that. Dont drink it all  or you will need the toilet only drink what you need and not what you want you shoulnt need more than 250 unless its a very hot day.


  2. You don't need to drink water when you are running 3 miles. If you are not dehydrated before running, drink some water, then run. You can drink after the run.

  3. Alot i am the top cross country runner at my school so i drink around a qt. for 1.5 miles, so 4 u probally around 1 gallon or 2qts.

  4. when i have 3.1 miles races for cross country i drink the whole day.

    in the morning i drink a powerade. and a bottle of water

    then i drink another bottle at lunch and maybe another 1/2 before 2 o'clock

    i then stop drinking until we get to the school where the race is and then i take a few sips of water every so often until the race starts.

    but drinking while you run isn't very good. because you will feel the water in stomach. but right after your run you should drink.

  5. If you're concerned about hydration- drinking water the night before is really when you need to be hydrating(or earlier in the day if you're running later on).

    Unless you are running for more than 50 minutes or so, I'd say you don't need water or electrolyte-drinks while you are running. But you should definitely have at least eight-ten ounces or so of water after your run.

    Anyways- sounds like you're doing great, keep it up the running!
